16 Months Old

Time is flying!

I can't believe this little sweetheart is 16 months old today!

We had Annabel's 15 month check up last Friday, right before turning 16 months old today.
She measured in at 32 inches tall which is in the 90th percentile.
She weighs in at 22.6 pounds which is 50th percentile.
To compare her to Annika at this age she is the exact same height and 2 pounds smaller!

Annabel does not like the pool!  We only took her in 2 times last summer and now we're regreting it.  We should have gone more!

Annabel only says "bye" (occasionally) and "dada" and "that".  According to our doctor she should be talking a lot more, at least 5 clear words.  We're waiting till her 18 month appointment to see how she's doing.  If she's not talking more we'll be going to a hearing specialist first and then to an early intervention program to see what's going on.  We aren't worried at all because we feel she is shy and she understands a lot.  Our doctor agrees, she can follow simple directions like "go get me a diaper" and she'll bring one or "go to Annika and play in the playroom" she'll go and play.  She just doesn't have much to say!  Our doctor said it will ultimately be up to us in a few months to see what we want to do or if we want to wait till her 2 year old check up to see if she's speaking more then, which will be 50 words.

Annabel, like her sister, is a wonderful sleeper!  She sleeps between 12-13 hours straight (yes, really, straight, no crying, no nothing, 12-13 hours SLEEPING) and takes a 2 hour nap most days.

She's running around like crazy now and can keep up with Annika.

  1. It's not uncommon for younger children to rely on their older siblings to speak for them. She understands you just fine I'm sure, but since Annika can talk for her she probably thinks she doesn't have to.

  2. My daughter (older) said three words at 18 months, and then quit talking at all. Our pediatrician had her referred to speech therapy, and it turned out it was really just her shy, quiet personality and that I could tell what she wanted without her speaking much. She exited speech in 3 months. It's a good idea to rule out other things, but I bet she is just fine. :-) I can't believe how fast our little girls are growing, either (Elena is 15 months). She (Annabel) is so cute!
