Suggestions Needed

Annabel seems to have very, very dry skin. Annika never had a dry skin issue at all. I would bathe her, put on a thin layer of lotion and she'd be fine. I only bathe Annabel once a week because of her skin. After her bath I put Johnsons & Johnsons Baby Cream on her. Then everyday I put it on her again. Her skin is still peeling and very dry especially her forehead and feet. Any suggestions on a better lotion?

Also my 6 week post partum check up is Friday! Can you believe Annabel will actually be 6 weeks old tomorrow?? Time is flying! I need to go on birth control pills since I did not get my tubes tied (my doctor hesitated to do it since I'm young and since I went in as an emergency I didn't get to sign the release he has for all patients wanting their tubes tied). Any suggestions on those? I took Lo-Loestrin FE last time and had horrible mood swings and bleeding the entire month so I'd rather not do that again. I used to take Yasmin long, long ago so I'm leaning towards that one unless there's something better. I just don't want the mood swings or headaches that I sometimes get with birth control.

And here is a picture of Annika and Annabel. Annika just loves her sister!

  1. My oldest had very dry skin. I used Aveeno Baby. It worked GREAT.

  2. My daughter has eczema, and we used a prescription with Aquaphor on top--it is very sticky and thick but works great. Also, our doc recommended only using white Dove soap for washing her. We don't use any Johnson's products just because they seemed to make it worse.

I use Ortho Tri Cyclen and I love it. I am so getting back on it when I can!

  3. I recommend Aquaphor - we use it for everything and it works great! Can't help you on the birth control pills - I have a Mirena IUD that I got after my son was born. I do like it and haven't had any problems with it at all.

  5. We have changed soaps recently- I was reading the Ewg dot org reports for sunscreen this year and stumbled upon their baby products section. Due to the bad ratings on the j&j products we were using,I switched things up. I've tried about 4-5 brands from their list and have had good results with some better than others. The two I liked best for my son's very sensitive skin have been California baby calming lotion (about $12 at target) and light and happy bath wash (about $15). I stopped using the soap b/c we had to use a lot to make bubbles in the tub! It was getting to expensive as we were going through a lot of bottles lol. My next favorite is say yes to baby carrots brand bath wash (about $7 at target). Smells great (mango!)... It's watery but lathers and bubbles up very well! I switched to aveeno baby daily moisture lotion (about $6 at target). It doesn't smell like anything and the first time I used it on him, it felt ticky, but it's fine now. Reading about eczema and sensitive skin online, I started researching using goat milk soap. For days that he showers, we have been using goat milk stuff brand soap- purity and oatmeal scents. That soap is amazing! Our whole family has switched at least for the winter time, when skin is drier. Our routine is the carrot bath wash on bath days, goat milk soap on shower days and aveeno lotion. If he still has a super dry patch of skin, I also use aquaphor. Sorry for the mistakes and run ons, I didn't realize I couldnt edit on our iPad lol

  6. I love aquaphor, but it got kind of greasy, but we great on the face or diaper area. Alex has had bouts with eczema since he was a baby, but recently his back felt like sand paper. I was recommended CeraVe cream (not the lotion) it comes in a tub and I found it at the grocery store (or walmart, rite-aid, etc). Let me tell you, Alex's back was smooth the next morning. The stuff is wonderful. I even started using it on my eczema and psoriasis and I've noticed improvements as well. Good luck! Baby skin is tricky!

  7. I recommend Aquaphor which is basically Vaseline... I don't love the feel of it so I use it on L before bed over her whole body if she is dry and then during the day it is great on cheeks :) We use it on A's cheeks a lot too!
