I'm Fat

This article is so sad to me. It's about a 7 year old girl that tells her mother that she thinks she's fat.

I only hope and pray that our girls never come to us at such a young age telling us they think they're fat. I want them both to have high self esteems and have a good body image. I want them to be healthy and smart and not have to worry about things like this!

  1. That is sad. But unfortunantly, the way our society directs so much towards outer appearances, it almost seems inevitable. My 8 year old niece is always telling me that she is fat. I of course tell her she is beautiful and that being skinny or fat isn't what makes you pretty or not. I hate that she is already thinking like this....when I was that age these thoughts never even crossed my mind!

  2. I constantly tell my daughter (well, now I have two since Elena arrived this weekend) how beautiful she is, and I also tell her that beauty comes from inside, and that she is so beautiful because of how kind and thoughtful etc. she is. I'm not making that stuff up, either, she really does have those qualities. So I try to emphasize those, as well as that I think she is also lovely on the outside. It's really all we can do. And to remind them that anyone who tells them otherwise is not worth listening to.
